According to dermatologists, UV exposure may account for up to 80% of visible signs of skin aging, including wrinkles. But since it’s impossible — and no fun — to avoid the sun completely, wrinkles are inevitable. Luckily there’s laser wrinkle reduction, a safe and effective treatment that diminishes the appearance of wrinkles in a quick, painless procedure. Located in Springfield, Virginia, Dr. Eric J. Furst provides laser wrinkle treatment using the latest cosmetic technology. To get started, call Furst MD Aesthetics or book an appointment online.
Laser wrinkle reduction, which is also called laser skin resurfacing, is a treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles using laser energy. It’s a noninvasive alternative to surgical facelifts, which have a long recovery time and can cause unwanted facial changes. Laser wrinkle reduction offers patients a procedure with little to no recovery time, as well as noticeable, long-lasting results.
Dr. Furst uses the xeo ® system, an innovative aesthetic device that converts laser energy into gentle pressure. This pressure squeezes your cells, activating their natural process of creating new collagen and elastin. The xeo device allows Dr. Furst to be very precise and controlled, so there’s no damage to the surrounding tissues.
Laser wrinkle reduction works best on fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead, including:
Laser treatment can also sometimes work well on neck wrinkles because in addition to surface removal, it also tightens and tones the skin.
For deeper lines and wrinkles, you may need a different type of laser, or a combination of laser resurfacing and other treatments such as dermal fillers.
In general, laser wrinkle reduction requires little to no recovery time. Side effects are very rare and, when they do occur, they’re mild. There may be some swelling or soreness, but the most common side effect is redness around the treated area, and this goes away quickly. You’ll need to wear sunscreen and follow Dr. Furst’s post-procedure instructions carefully.
In general, laser wrinkle reduction is safe for all skin types, but there are certain situations that might increase the chances of side effects or complications.
If you have active acne, you should wait until it’s controlled before pursuing laser treatment. Also, if you were recently treated with Accutane®, you should wait at least six months before laser resurfacing. Furthermore, certain laser treatments are better suited for fair skin, since there is a risk of hyperpigmentation for dark-skinned individuals.
